These two awards were presented at the 2017 Cornell Student Chapter View of the Lake meeting held on Sunday May 7, 2017. The following describes the award specifications and presents the twowell appointed award recipients for this year.

ASCE Winslow T. Shearman (Student Merit) AwardThis award is presented to a member of the graduating class in civil and environmental engineering who is an active member of the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is considered most worthy of the honor by virtue of high character and academic achievement. . Established by Ithaca Section in 1932; renamed the Winslow T. Shearman Award in 2000.

2017 Recipient – David Picinich has been an excellent student, a willing and able lab-partner, and a good friend to all.  David is one of Cornell’s top structures students and has a genuine intuition for the behavior of structures.  He has been an officer in his fraternity and an active and effective ASCE officer.   David remains very close with his extended family and loves to share pictures and memories of family time at holidays, breaks, and summer vacations.  David is headed for a position in the construction industry, and the Cornell ASCE Chapter’s faculty advisor is certain that we will hear many good things about him as his career develops.

ASCE Student Service Award  This award is presented to a member of the graduating class in civil and environmental engineering who is a member of the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and has rendered the most meritorious service to fellow students and to the profession of civil engineering. Established by Ithaca Section in 1960.

2017 Recipient – Charles Sanderson has been a prime mover on Cornell’s ASCE Steel Bridge team.  This year he headed-up the construction team and set a Cornell-best construction time record at the regional competitions in Syracuse.  He not only led the team in action, but made many critical suggestions about constructability during the design process.  Charles is an effective and reliable leader and member of the ASCE Cornell University Student Chapter.
